Competitor Profiles
Three companies. Three different bets. Only one has real booking infrastructure. Only one has real users. Neither is the same company.
B2B · SMB TRAVEL
Otto
"Hi, I'm Otto, your AI travel assistant for work." First-person agent persona targeting unmanaged business travelers without corporate travel desks. Built by a 14-year Expedia/Egencia SVP who knows exactly what he's building—the question is whether the market he's targeting is large enough to justify the infrastructure cost.
B2C · HIGH-FREQUENCY
Miso
"Agentic Travel—The platform designed for high frequency travelers." SMS-first, concierge-hybrid. The marketing says AI-native; the job postings say human concierges. Still on waitlist 16 months after founding. Peter Thiel's money buys credibility, not product-market fit.
B2C · HOTEL LOYALTY
Gondola
"Earn More On Every Stay." Not a conversational AI agent—a hotel metasearch + loyalty optimization platform with backend AI for ranking and rate monitoring. Direct hotel APIs (Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, IHG). Real users, real press (NYT, CBS, NerdWallet), real savings. The only one with visible product-market fit.
Michael Gulmann (CEO, 14yr Expedia/Egencia SVP), CD Wang (CTO, ex-Uber ML, Snap, Microsoft). Investors: Steve Singh (Concur founder, Madrona), Erik Blachford (ex-CEO Expedia), Barney Harford (ex-CEO Orbitz, ex-COO Uber).
Built on Spotnana—a modern travel platform providing GDS/NDC connectivity to Sabre, Amadeus, Travelport, plus NDC-direct. This is the only startup with real booking rails. Native iOS + Android + web. GA since Dec 2025 after 9-month beta.
No activities, no car rental. Disruption handling "coming soon." 90+ SEO blog posts suggests pre-revenue organic growth. iOS app has 9 ratings total. Beta produced "100+ bookings" in 9 months—roughly 11/month. Free through 2026—no validated willingness to pay. Copyright still reads 2025.
Agent-browser testing found Otto's registration flow redirects to Gondola.ai. The app domain routes to Miso's login page. The marketing site is a ghost ship—Webflow CDN still serving 145 pages, but the conversion funnel is broken. Product appears to have been absorbed into the Miso/Gondola entity.
Zero user-generated content on Twitter or Reddit. All mentions from investors, press, and conference demos. Industry credibility, zero consumer traction.
Martin Mrozowski (founder, Fox News appearance Apr 2025), Spencer Wu (co-founder: "I left my $150K PM job"). Entity: Miso Intelligence, Delaware. ~9 employees.
SMS/text-based via OpenPhone. Not a browser chatbot—literal text messaging through Apple Messages for Business. Framer marketing site. "256-bit encryption, MFA, GDPR." LLM unspecified. No GDS/NDC partner named.
Actively hiring part-time "Travel Concierge Specialists." The AI cannot handle end-to-end booking autonomously. This is a human concierge service marketed as AI-native.
miso.com now 301-redirects to gondola.ai. The Miso brand is dead. The SMS concierge model has been abandoned. Only app.miso.com survives as a phone-number auth gateway serving the Gondola/Otto entity. The pivot confirms what the architecture predicted: human concierge operations don't scale on $2M in funding.
Privacy policy contained "[Insert Contact Information]" placeholder. Testimonial from "150 flights a year" user contradicted waitlist-only status. $10.6M Tracxn figure references a different company named Miso (robotics, YC W16). Devastating public review: "the bot can't answer basic questions and spits out errors at monetization time" (@John_Mehaffey, Apr 2026).
Skyler Erickson (co-founder, prev co-founded Otari → acquired by Peloton). Responds to users personally on Twitter. Team size undisclosed.
Direct API integrations with Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, IHG, Accor. No GDS needed (hotels only). AI is recommendation/ranking engine + automated rate monitoring (AutoSave). NOT conversational. Has an MCP server at mcp.gondola.ai/mcp for AI agent integrations.
The only startup with genuine organic user praise. "Incredible & FREE award travel product." "First place I check for any travel bookings." Video testimonials. Feature requests signal engaged user base: Amex/Chase coupon trackers, hotel free night certificates, airline companion passes. Press from NYT, CBS, NerdWallet, The Points Guy, View from the Wing.
Comprehensive help center (20+ articles), active blog with data-driven analysis (1.1M+ rate observations across 1,927 Hyatt properties), three-tier rewards system, flight fare monitoring (launched Apr 2026). Privacy policy claims self-hosted AI on Azure—data not shared with OpenAI or used to train third-party models.
Gondola is a booking optimization engine, not a conversational agent. Closer to Google Flights than to a travel agent. But the strategic read is important: Gondola is positioning to become a tool that conversational agents use, not an agent itself. The MCP server is the tell. Otto is the conversational layer built on top of Gondola's booking infrastructure.
